Brandon Aubrey named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – At this point, nothing Brandon Aubrey does anymore should come as a big surprise. A 64-yard field goal to tie the game and force overtime or then a 46-yard as time expired in overtime to win the game, are just the latest accomplishments that are starting to become the norm for Aubrey.

And it’s those two kicks that likely helped Aubrey win another NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award, an honor that was announced Wednesday by the league office.

Aubrey’s clutch 64-yarder – the second-longest of his career – tied the game 37-37 with the Giants last Sunday. After several possessions by both teams, time was running out in overtime and the Cowboys were getting close to having their first regular-season tie since 1969 before Aubrey was able to strike a 46-yard kick in the final seconds, propelling the Cowboys to a 40-37 win.

He became the first kicker in NFL history to make field goals as time expired in both regular and overtime in the same game. His 64-yarder is his fourth career field goal of 60+ yards, tying the NFL record with former Cowboys kicker Brett Maher.

Overall, Aubrey made four field goals in the game, along with four extra points, totaling 16 points. It’s the eight time in his career he has made at least four field goals in a game, the most since he entered the league in 2023.

For Aubrey, it’s his third Special Teams Player of the Week award of his career. He won it once as a rookie in 2023 against the Rams and then again last season in a win over the Bucs.

Aubrey is the 8th kicker in Cowboys history to win NFC ST Player of the Week and he’s now tied with four other kickers for most weekly awards with three. Chris Boniol, Billy Cundiff, Dan Bailey and Maher have each won it three times.

But only Boniol has won the monthly award, something Aubrey has won three times and could be in position for fourth.

So far this year, Aubrey is 6-for-6 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points.
